Case Study

Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions

Overview

Addressing climate change must be a bipartisan effort if the United States is going to be able to drive and sustain common sense solutions that meet the moment. Civitas has worked for much of the last decade to bring policymakers, business leaders, and nonprofits across the political spectrum together to tackle this important challenge.

Problem

Across all segments of voters, support for addressing global climate challenges has grown. Yet policy efforts are hindered by deep partisanship. In order to advance solutions this challenge demands, we need to build bipartisan leadership focused on finding common ground.

Our Role

Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) was established in 2013 to engage Republican policymakers and right-of-center audiences in discussions about responsible, conservative approaches to addressing climate change and promoting clean energy. Principal James Dozier – who leads Civitas’s right-of-center work – founded CRES to be a leading advocate and policy resource for climate and clean energy issues in Republican and right-of-center political and policy spaces. Our team has supported CRES in the development of important capabilities in government relations, research, communications, and policy development. Recognizing the need for a bipartisan advocacy event focused on clean energy, Civitas helped CRES create National Clean Energy Week. This event brings together policymakers, business leaders, advocates, and trade associations across the political spectrum to engage in constructive discussions about clean energy in a collaborative environment. Civitas works with CRES to mobilize governors to issue proclamations in support of clean energy and enlists third-party validators to amplify the impact of the week.

Climate Change Is Too Big For One Party

Through their strategic guidance and support, Civitas has played a crucial role in advancing center-right support for climate and clean energy. Their collaboration with Civitas and CRES has led to the establishment of a strong advocacy voice within the Republican Party, facilitating discussions and actions on clean energy policy. By providing strategic direction, supporting organizational development, and leading key initiatives, Civitas has fostered bipartisan support and generated momentum for clean energy and climate solutions.
